The University of Wisconsin celebrated the careers of four seniors on Sunday.
Chema Carranza, Lamar Remy, Josef Dodridge and Darius Mackenzie each took a bow, then left Nielsen Tennis Stadium on a high note after defeating Michigan State 6-1 in a Big Ten Conference match.
Dodridge won in straight sets for the Badgers (11-10, 3-5 Big Ten) over Josh Mukherjee 6-2, 6-0 while junior Osgar O’Hoisin beat Davis Wong 6-3, 6-4 of the Spartans (8-16, 1-8).
With the doubles point in hand, it was fitting Carranza would clinch the win in his final home match.
In front his mother and father who were visiting from Spain, Carranza eked out a first-set victory before turning on the jets in the second to win 7-6, 6-3 over Jasper Koenen.
“I was very glad we were able to overcome some of the emotions involved in a day like today,” said UW coach Danny Westerman, whose team has a pair of road matches remaining ahead of the Big Ten tournament beginning April 27 in Iowa City.
